A big Thank You to all of
you who aided and abetted us in making the meet at Llangollen Youth Hostel the
success that it obviously was.
To Les and Hazel who organized a brilliant treasure hunt and helped with the
Sunday runs and Gerald who raised himself from his sick bed to prepare the slide
show.
To Sue who brought the slide show and equipment to the hostel even though she
hadn’t fully recovered from her own illness and Graham who helped waiting on
at the dinner.
To Martin and Julie who endured my endless whingeing on the phone.
And to anyone who supported the event simply by turning up.
We should all do it again sometime but, sadly, I’ll have to relinquish the
organising to somebody else!! That is unless some one steps forward and offers
me a free week of rehab’!!
Gerald & Sue
led an excellent run into Cheshire in search
of ice cream in early September. We even managed to be on time to meet some
stray North Westerners who were supposed to be rehearsing for Llangollen on
their own treasure hunt .
It was nice to see Clare and Mark out and about, and the Lewis family also
put in an appearance. Next stop was Cholmondley (pron: Chumley) Castle where
Geof and I laughed hilariously as we sped into the bottom of a drainage ditch. I’d
seen Dave’s’ warning but had thought he was waving to someone!!
After enjoying a bit of "reet gud" brass band music and teas and
cakes we had to organize several search parties to redeem band spectators before
setting forth on the return leg.
Bonfire run
Bring lots of Parkin and treacle toffee to the
Tollgate, Maerdy (chez Wyle) for Les and Hazels’ run on November 5th.
Departing at 10am prompt.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH
Sunday 3rd December,
Fielding Arms,Pant
Asaph
Don’t miss your chance to be part of the premier society event of the year.
Lunch will be served at 12.00 midday followed by the presentation of the highly
prestigious awards for the 2000 season.
So, don’t delay and send your booking form in ASAP as seating is strictly
limited to 40 and of course it’s first come first served.
Nominations for this years awards are already mounting up reflecting the
increasing amounts of activity and bizarre behavior being demonstrated
especially in the best Victor Meldrew category!! You know who you are!!
The judges ,i.e. ME, will try to remain impartial but, as always "he who
proffers the best malt wins".
We intend to ride from Rhyl with Hugh and Anne, feel welcome to join us.
Further French Frolics
No fixed details yet but the bare bones of an idea.
Date, probably Whit half term week 2001.
A return visit to the bungalows in Andouille in Normandy.
Sail from Portsmouth and ride to Andouille from St. Malo.
Return sailing from Caen to Portsmouth.
Many of you have already stated an interest in this so I’ll start carrying
all the info’ I’ve accumulated to runs where you can interrogate myself and
Les.
2001 runsheet
Start thinking of what, where, and how you want the next years’ activities
to be so we can get the run sheet together as soon as possible.
A suggestion has already been put forward for a camping weekend on the Lleyn.
Yet more slides? Very popular but Pat and Ken will need an extension !
Not The New Year Meet
Because last Januarys’ meet at Corris YH was so enjoyable we’re wondering
whether to do it a little bit bigger and better this time by renting Cynwyd YH
for a weekend in January 2001 for a bit of a communal shindig.
There’ll be some riding and a load of chaos as all the entertainment will
be homegrown cabaret in a party atmosphere.
The major hurdle to this little project coming off is the matter of economics
we need enough people to make the Rent a Hostel fee viable. Go on commit
yourself - you know you want to!!
Helen Russell
is, thankfully, on the
road to recovery and now in Cefni hospital in Llangefni.
She hopes people will feel free to write or visit as she expects to be there
for some time under going intensive physiotherapy.
Visiting hours are from 2pm to 8pm.
